May Updates

Last weekend was a busy one with the BoG meeting, fun flotilla that day and a couple of brave boats went out for the Moonlight Sail in spite of the very light winds.

This time of year finds busy families with graduations and preparations for school to end, but I am still seeing increased attendance all around the club on the weekends and through the week.

The Board has approved the purchase of a club owned pressure washer that can be checked out for use on your boat.

As I announced on the Members Facebook page earlier in the week, last evening was the first session of a seminar on the Rules of Racing and the significant changes for the next 4 years, it is being taught by Dave Perry who is a rules expert from US Sailing. The Grand Lake Yacht Club Foundation located in Colorado is sponsoring the two night event for Colorado sailors, I reached out to them through a friend of mine who is the Commodore at the Lake Pueblo Sailing Club and they generously allowed our members entrance to the seminar.

I think the general consensus was that it was a well presented seminar and all of us are looking forward to the second session next week. If anyone would like to take advantage and participate in the second session just contact me and I’ll get you connected. I believe there were 35-40 sailors on the Zoom feed but Mr. Perry did an excellent job answering questions and clarifying any confusions. I don’t know how many of you have dug into the rules of sailing but they can be a handful!

I am attaching a letter on GLSC etiquette from Vice Commodore David Mercer, with the large influx of new members he felt we needed a reminder on everyday rules and general procedures. Thanks David for your time and initiative.

Enjoy this beautiful weather and let’s go sailing!
