Commodore’s Update — July 15, 2026

Good evening — it’s Wednesday!

The Friday Social will be at 6pm this Friday. Feel free to share your potluck offerings here or on the Facebook thread I’ll start later.

It’s been hot — but lots of folks are out at the club doing boat work. It’s looking promising that we’ll get C dock back soon: the walkway is in place, so mostly final finish work (the time-consuming part) is all that’s left.

Good news on the sailing school front — our ASA application is progressing and has moved to the next reviewer in line, so they know we’re here.

A big crowd was on hand for Kurt Hagen’s memorial service last Friday afternoon, where several emotional memories were shared. Kurt was a special guy and will definitely be missed.

Welcome to the club, new members Hank & Maggie Borck! They’ve been approved as regular members and are finishing paperwork on the purchase of a Catalina 25 — we should be seeing them around the club soon.

There’s a fun flotilla scheduled for this coming Saturday, with the normal Captain’s Meeting at 10am. Come join the fun!

Speaking of group sailing — there was a long discussion at the Board meeting about getting more folks out sailing for the fun flotillas and the race series. The social events are being well attended, but we are a SAILING CLUB! David Elliott is looking for opinions and ideas on ways to get more people and boats on the water. A lot of good ideas were tossed around (reverse starts where the fast boats start last, adjusting handicap scores to even things out, and more), but we’d love to hear from you: What would get you on the water and under sail? Is there something that makes you hesitate to join in? Do you want to build skills or learn more about the rules of sailing? If you’d like to remain anonymous, reply to me and I’ll pass the information along while protecting your identity. It’s your club — let us know what you want.

Troy Calhoon is also looking for input on timing for another ‘Tour of Lady Grand’ event. What dates work for you? He’s trying to balance lake traffic with restaurants still being open, so let me know your thoughts or contact Troy directly.

Have a great rest of the week, and I hope to see a bunch of you out over the weekend.
