The Long Distance Classic sailboat race open to all Sailors will be on Saturday October 4th.

Sail from Honey Creek to the Dam and back.

Planning Ahead for the LDC

Long Distance Race Check List

Make sure David Elliott has YOUR CORRECT contact information for the race in case there is a change to the race course/distance.

Fully Charged cell phone and the ability to recharge or top off phone charge (it is a long day)

Everyone should conduct a pre-sail safety briefing so people know where to find important items and how to signal for help if needed.

Life jackets for everyone on board +1 Throwable device

Flash light

Signaling device

Working VHF radio /emergency contact device (GRDA & Tow Boat US are aware of the race and ready to respond if needed)

Water/ Fluids for the complete crew.

Working head or a plan for using toilet

Food/ snacks for the day

Approximate clothing and jackets. Layers will be the best due to wide range of predicted temperatures. Towels to dry off if wet.

Required safety equipment as required by GRDA.

Plenty of fuel in case you have to motor back from the South End of the lake.

A rotation plan to keep everyone fresh and help prevent fatigue (solo sailors good luck)

A man overboard recovery plan and know how to execute it.

Plenty of spares and back up parts, sheets,etc.

Please add to this list if you know of anything.

Please have Regatta Hero up and running so people back at the Club House and at home can see how the race is going. Make sure you have live tracking turned on. It will also be used by GRDA and TowBoat US to find boats in distress.
