Commodore’s Update — August 26, 2026

Whew, it is hot!

Friday Social

Friday Social is at 6pm this week. Fridays have been well attended and very enjoyable this year, so come join the fun! Check out our Events & Calendar page for details, and follow along on Facebook for updates.

Rod’s Birthday Bash

The Rod’s birthday bash last Saturday was a blast! Great food, great folks, yummy desserts — Rod’s bananas foster was the bomb diggity. Quite the crowd on hand and everyone enjoyed the live music, and even some dancing occurred.

Peanut Regatta #6

Peanut Regatta #6 had 10 boats participating, and with the unpredictable wind forecast and an open starting line to “plan your own start time” in play, there were some interesting strategies. Rod & Jill Coker tested the early winds aboard Tsunami and powered to a win in the B fleet, while Claude Phelps delayed his start time and gambled on stronger winds building up, zipping Uff Da to a 30-second advantage in the A fleet category. Congratulations to the winners and crews!

Upcoming Events

Fun Flotilla is scheduled for this Saturday if anyone wants to group sail — captain’s meeting at 10am.

The fall version of the Grand Lake Cruise is scheduled for next week with Troy Calhoon as the organizer. He is watching the temperature forecast and trying to adjust to make it enjoyable, but he would certainly like to have a head count to help with planning. If you’re planning to attend, please reach out to the club or check the Events & Calendar page to get on the list.

ASA Sailing School Progress

In other news, one more step has been completed in the journey to become an ASA sailing school! The virtual tour is scheduled for this coming Friday, with the final step of Onboarding Orientation to follow. We’re getting closer to being up and running — exciting times ahead for the club.

Closing for now — hope to see you on the water soon!

Thanks,
