Commodore’s Update — May 20, 2026

Yep, it’s Wednesday!

The Friday Social will be at the normal place (clubhouse) at the normal time (6pm). I’ll start a post on the Facebook Members page for menu offerings, or you can reply and I’ll post for you. Friday socials have been off the charts the last couple of weeks, so don’t miss out — come join the fun!

I believe we can call last weekend’s Explore Grand Lake event a big success. There were a total of 12 boats involved at various times from Thursday through Sunday. Several restaurants were visited, as well as two anchorages, and based on social media comments the Grand Lake community as a whole enjoyed it too.

We debriefed on Sunday, and there are some changes coming for the next one — plus plans being made for a fall tour. Stay tuned!

Boat captains and crew involved in sailing and anchoring were Troy Calhoon, Kristi DeLapp, Terry Hines, Kit Hines, Vic Rider, Lew Enns, Dale Reimer, John Vecchio, Steve Lyle, Pam Lyle, Mary Snook, and myself. Others who joined for a sail along or meal stops were Adan Moore, Charlie Murray, Josey Murray, David Elliott, Stan Frear, Mary Frear, Glen Bianchi, and Leslie Bianchi. I hope I remembered everyone!

A special thanks goes out to Mayo and Debi Selby, who volunteered their personal pontoon boat to ferry folks from the anchored boats back through the shallows at the back of Drowning Creek for supper. (Now there’s a story to tell!)

That’s quite a group — 22 members — and others had expressed interest but had graduations, family commitments, or boat issues. I can’t wait to see what the fall tour brings.

This Saturday is Peanut Regatta #3. Captain’s Meeting is at 10am. There’s a possibility of rain, so prepare accordingly.

In other news, the dock crew has started on repairs — hopefully you’ll be seeing some progress, weather permitting. They’ve temporarily moved the Laser shed out to the end of C dock, so brace yourself for a different look.

A longtime member commented that it’s sure nice to see the large numbers of members around the club lately. I have to agree — we have a great club and great members, and it’s awesome to see everyone enjoying the facilities.

Get out and sail soon!
