Commodore’s Update — October 7, 2026

This Week at the Club

Friday Social is at 6pm on Friday. Since Saturday’s event will be Mexican themed, we’re suggesting no Mexican dishes on Friday. A menu thread will be started on the Facebook Members page. We expect to have some prospective members join us again, so come on out and say hello!

Long Distance Classic Breakfast & Race

We had a great start last weekend with the 2026 LDC Breakfast! Mary Snook, Joan Gibson, Jennifer Moore, Mattie Moore and Ellen Rider were on hand at the crack of dawn to prepare bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits, and gravy along with fruit, pastries, juice, and coffee. Thanks to everyone who helps make the event go smoothly, and a big thanks to Vic Rider for cleaning the grill for the ladies. A friendly reminder: please clean up after using any of the grilling equipment so it’s ready for the next group.

A massive thank you to David Elliott for all of his promotion and organization of the 2026 Long Distance Classic. He welcomed new folks from as far away as OKC, and even one couple celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary by sailing with us. He handled the permits, built the course, and taught the new folks about the Regatta Hero app, and he performed magnificently! This event used to be a jewel of the Midwest sailing scene back when it was the “100 Miler,” and David may be working it back to its former grandeur. Thank you, David, for all your efforts and for the positive light it shines on the Club!

After the bellies were full, 11 boats started and battled very light winds.

Fall Elections

The plan at this time is to send the ballot out on Monday, October 12th, so watch your email. Members will be confirming the Board of Governors for 2027 and voting to approve (or disapprove) the repaving of the driveway. Please vote!

I’m closing for now, but I hope to see you all this weekend. Come join the fun!

Thanks,
