And boy, has it been hot!
Friday Social
Friday Social is at 6pm this Friday. Come join us!
Around the Club
C dock is officially open again and the boats are returning steadily — we may actually get back to normal! A big thank-you goes out to VC Mercer, Jeff Bergmann, HM Adan Moore, and Mayo Selby for their quick work getting the water and electric back on. Next up, the crew will be refloating the laser shed, followed by a renewal of the launch deck in front of it — stay tuned, as we’ll likely be looking for helping hands on that project. With water restored, the Landing, launch ramp, and A dock are back in service as well.
Thanks also to VC Mercer for catching an unusually high water bill and tracking down the cause — a broken valve, a ruptured section of pipe, and a worn-out faucet in the work area, all since repaired. Nice work saving the club a good deal on wasted water!
Peanut Regatta #5
Peanut Regatta #5 is in the books, with 7 boats braving the heat for an interesting start sequence. We used a Pursuit (reverse-order) start — slower-rated boats first, faster-rated boats later — and it made for a fun day on the water. Congratulations to Rod & Jill Coker for line honors (starting next to last!) and 1st in B fleet, and to Adan Moore for 1st in A fleet. There’s also a Fun Flotilla scheduled for this Saturday if you’d like to group sail.
Club News
We’re progressing nicely toward becoming an ASA affiliate — the official agreement is signed and our initial fees are paid, with a virtual site inspection up next. We’re quickly checking off the steps needed to be certified.
Mark your calendars for Friday, August 7th, when GLSC will host the August edition of the First Friday Wine Share. We’re a favorite with the regular attendees — last time we hosted, we had 54 people join us. It’s a wonderful way to showcase the club and our members to the Grove community. Come join the fun! More on this next week.
A bit early, but worth noting: we’ll be exhibiting at the 2027 Tulsa Boat, Sport & Travel Show, February 1–7, 2027 — a great opportunity to promote our learn-to-sail classes.
Closing for this week — stay cool, and let’s go sailing!
Thanks,
Fred Overstreet
